FAQ Page. Students in either program can pick a concentration based on the type of practice and work that they want to do. Concentrations are available in community, clinic and integrated practice. The clinical practice concentration prepares students for working with individuals and small groups in clinical settings. They also learn how to work with families. Those who choose the community practice concentration will learn more about working in community clinics, including how to handle administrative tasks and how to advocate for new policies.
The integrated practice concentration allows students to take classes from both disciplines. The amount of work that students do will depend on whether they are traditional or advanced standing students. Traditional students must pick a concentration and take 64 credits of classes.
More than 30 of those credits will come from foundation and core courses, but the remaining classes relate to their concentrations. They will also do two fieldwork practicums. UNE requires that students spend at least 10 hours a week on their practicums. Advanced standing students can pick from the same concentrations, but they will only take 11 courses that are worth 35 credits. These students will also do just one practicum.
Like traditional students, they can get help from the university in finding placements to complete this requirement. They must answer some background questions and then write short responses to several essay questions.
The university asks them to write about social inclusion and times when they noticed a lack of social inclusion. They will also write about a conflict they had in the past and how they resolved that issue and their personal strengths and weaknesses.
