The S incorporates two 3'' full range 12 watt ARX speakers near the head-area as well as a 5. The rocker is able to accept RCA stereo audio from any console, DVD player, or just about anything else with stereo outputs. Audio outputs allow you to send the audio back to your surround sound receiver if you want to have both the chair and your regular speakers pumping your tunes.
Controls along the right side of the rocker allow for volume, bass, and input selection, and a headphone jack.
Input selection, you ask? The S sports a mini-jack headphone input on the left side, designed especially for hooking up an iPod or other MP3 player.
The male mini-jack plug can go right into your iPod, and there's even an elastic strap to mount your 'Pod while you relax. The S's audio quality isn't bad. The two full-range speakers at the top of the chair are roughly comparable to the speakers integrated in decent TVs.
While the lack of tweeters does mean the high-end is a little muddled with the mids, games sound rather good, and the time I spent with my iPod jacked into the S wasn't at all irritating due to nasty audio quality. Jess was a big fan of the sub. The S's subwoofer also does its job well. Half the purpose of a gaming chair with an integrated sub is the ability to get enough bass going to jiggle your internal organs without turning up your stand-alone sub so high stuff vibrates right off the shelves and your windows pop out of their frames trust me, its happened.
The S's sub shoots right into your lower abdominal cavity and has enough power to make all your inner bits go a-tingle, yet isn't excessively boomy or loose enough to ruin the overall sound quality.
The bass dial on the side allows you to dial in the subwoofer's output for somewhat less spine-tingling literally tactile feedback. She looks pretty happy.
